Embracing All: Adaptive Programs at the Treasure Valley Family YMCA

At the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why our THRIVE and adaptive programs are designed to create spaces where individuals of all abilities can connect, develop new skills, and experience the joy of community. From sensory-friendly spaces to adaptive sports, cooking classes, and even specialized aquatic programs, we provide a range of offerings to ensure accessibility for all.

THRIVE: Creating Opportunities for All

Our THRIVE initiative is dedicated to supporting neurodiverse children and adults. Located at the Tomlinson South Meridian YMCA, the Blue Cross of Idaho THRIVE Center features thoughtfully designed spaces and compassionate staff who are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for both participants and caregivers.

THRIVE highlights include:

  • Sensory Rooms: A low-sensory room with calming swings, tactile walls, and quiet spaces; and a high-sensory room featuring a music wall panel, crash pad, and interactive play equipment.
  • Life-Skills Classes: Programs that focus on essential daily skills, such as cooking and money management, to help participants build confidence and independence.
  • Adaptive Sports: Fun, supportive environments where individuals of all abilities can engage in physical activity and teamwork.
  • Social Activities: From arts and crafts to BINGO, beginner yoga, and Zumba, our social programs help build friendships and encourage self-expression.

AquAbility: Building Confidence in the Water

Through our AquAbility program, individuals with varied abilities can experience the transformative benefits of aquatic therapy and exercise. This program focuses on physical and cognitive development, motor planning, communication skills, and water safety. Participants receive guidance from experienced Y staff and caregivers to support their personal goals and enhance their independence.

Adaptive Camps & Family-Focused Programming

Our camps are designed to create meaningful experiences for individuals of all abilities. Whether it’s sensory camps, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) workshops, dance, cooking, or arts, we offer engaging activities that foster learning and creativity in a supportive environment.

One of our newest offerings, Our Own Family Camp, is specifically designed for families affected by Down syndrome. This special camp provides families with a welcoming, pressure-free setting where they can bond, enjoy nature, and form lasting connections with others in the community. Join us this year from May 9-11 at Y Camp at Horsethief Reservoir!

Our Commitment to Welcome and Serve All

At the YMCA, our mission is to build strong communities by fostering youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We welcome individuals of all abilities, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity, respect, and support.
