Where Skills Grow, Friendships Flourish, and Character Leads the Way

At the Y, we believe youth sports are about more than the final score. They’re about building confidence, developing healthy habits, learning to work together, and discovering personal potential. Our programs are grounded in the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, ensuring every athlete is supported as a player, and as a person.

From preschoolers taking their first steps onto the field to teens honing competitive skills, every child is welcome in our inclusive, encouraging environment. Our leagues are recreational by design and focus on fundamental skill development, teamwork, and creating a love for the game that lasts a lifetime. Leagues are organized seasonally following a school calendar with Fall Sports, Winter Sports, Spring Sports, and Summer Sports Leagues and Camps. Practices meet twice a week to focus on warm-ups, targeted drills, and stretching to develop proper running technique and increase flexibility. Whether your child runs competitively or simply wants to stay active, these skills translate to success across all sports!

Cross country meets occur once a week for 6 weeks and include a 1000-meter race for kids 5-9 years old and a 2000-meter race for 10–14-year-olds.

Runners are coached to improve skill and endurance, and as with all Y sports, lessons are grounded in teaching the Y core values and focused on sportsmanship. The goal of Team Idaho is always to help participants at all levels improve their specific running skills, make new friends, and have fun! No prior experience is required.

It’s a great way for young athletes to build speed, endurance, and confidence in a fun, supportive environment.

For more experienced athletes ages 12 and up, the Advanced Winter Group offers a more intensive, event-specific training experience. This group meets three times per week and trains outdoors, with a focus on sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and hurdles. With a smaller group size and a lower coach-to-athlete ratio, athletes receive more individualized attention and targeted coaching. This program is ideal for those who are not beginners and are looking to refine their technique, improve performance, and prepare for indoor or early spring competitions. Many Advanced athletes also choose to compete in regional meets, representing Team Idaho at a higher level of competition.
