For many working parents, the start of the new school year also comes with the requirement of finding a safe and worthwhile place for their children to spend a few hours after school lets out each day. Currently, 1 in 5 kids does not have someone to care for them after school, according to the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness organization.

As families are transitioning from summer to fall, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA is offering programs to school-aged children throughout the Treasure Valley to keep youth active, inspired and engaged during out-of-school time.

“Over 11 million children in America are unsupervised between 3 and 6pm, an essential time to help increase children’s success in school,” said David Duro, CEO, Treasure Valley Family YMCA. “Before and after school care at the Y is an opportunity for families to ensure their kids are receiving additional support, continued learning, and a chance to participate in meaningful activities that can inspire children’s motivations and help them reach their potential.”

As the largest childcare provider in the state of Idaho, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA’s after-school program has 8 locations and provides before and after school care to kids in kindergarten through 8th grade for the Boise, Caldwell, Vallivue and West Ada School Districts. With capacity for 24 children, the newest center, Ponderosa Y Kids serves Ponderosa Elementary School in Meridian. For more information, call Sarah Allen at 208 344 5502 ext. 414.
