New Y Facility is part of a comprehensive plan addressing the critical needs of area residents.
BOISE – The Capital City Development Corporation (CCDC) announced today their choice for the Block 68 Catalytic Redevelopment project. Plans for a new Downtown Boise YMCA are included in the mutli-stakeholder proposal. This announcement is a turning point for Downtown Boise, and will help shape the landscape of a growing downtown community.

The new Downtown Boise YMCA will be the cornerstone for a campus of opportunity that will create a network of support, vitality, and community for thousands who live and work here”, said YMCA President and CEO David Duro. “This project will create a barrier-free YMCA that will truly serve all, while reinforcing the social fabric of the Downtown Boise neighborhood.”
This project allows the Y to be a catalyst for partnerships that address the needs and challenges that the community is currently facing. The campus goes above and beyond by including development plans for a three-block redevelopment area of downtown including mixed-income housing, expanded high-quality affordable childcare, educational space, retail offerings, community gathering space, and robust health and wellness services that will be provided by the Y and a selected health care partner all with an emphasis on doing so in a highly sustainable fashion.
Next steps include working with CCDC and the Y’s development partners to plan working sessions and determine how to best serve the community through this project. Throughout 2022, the Y will seek out and solidify additional community partners in the areas of education and family support services. They plan to break ground in 2023. One of the greatest benefits for existing Y members is that the existing Downtown Boise YMCA branch will not close during this period.
The Y is in the process of securing lead gifts to raise funds for the new Downtown Boise YMCA facility, which is projected to cost $60 million. This is part of a $30 million capital campaign; the additional funding will come from other sources, including community partnerships and the sale of various downtown YMCA assets. In March, the YMCA will launch a broader capital campaign and begin soliciting additional fundraising support for this project.
