School-Age Child Care
YMCA School-Age Child Care offers before and after school, as well as care on no-school days, holiday breaks, and summer for children from Kindergarten through 7th grade.
YMCA School Age Programs
School-Age Child Care provides children with a wide variety of academic enrichment activities that help children make new friends, do better in school, enjoy more physical activity, develop new skills, and live with caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Children in our programs benefit from a safe and nurturing environment that incorporates character values, provides positive adult role models, and develops necessary skills.
Incorporating the latest research in Youth Development, YMCA School-Age Child Care create academic enrichment activities to foster each child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. Every day, children engage through a “hands-on, minds-on” approach, allowing children to be physically active and cognitively challenged. Children are given the power of choice to participate in a variety of learning centers such as homework help, STEM, arts and crafts, physical activity, and play.

Our Cause Measures (Impact):
Our purpose is to nurture the potential of every child by focusing on a holistic approach of a child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. We focus on five key areas to positively impact youth: (1) Youth make new friends & build relationships. (2) Youth learn new skills and achieve success. (3) Youth do better in school academically & socially. (4) Youth enjoy more physical activity. (5) Youth live with Character Values of caring, honesty, respect, & responsibility.
Commitment to Safety
We provide licensed, safe environments with staff that are properly screened and trained to ensure that every youth feels a sense of belonging, safety, and connectedness: (1) Ensuring that all staff are properly screened and trained to work with youth. (2) Establishing clear expectations & practices for child abuse prevention. (3) Setting policies & procedures for emergency situations. (4) Providing safe & supportive environments that are clean and developmentally appropriate. (5) Following strict practices for authorized pick-ups.

Positive Behavior Guidance
We provide a positive approach to youth’s behavior, which is grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed, neuroscience-based research. Our approach is to ensure that all youth feel safe and cared for at the Y: (1) Safety: through self-regulation, safety enhances staff’s and youth’s ability to recognize and manage physiological and emotional upset. (2) Connection: through creating a compassionate YMCA School Family Culture, connection motivates staff’s and youth’s willingness to engage in healthy relationships, help each other be successful, and change perceptions about conflict. (3) Problem-solving: through changing our response to conflict and upgrading social-emotional skills, problem-solving boosts staff’s and youth’s ability to adapt to changing situations.

Healthy Eating & Physical Activity
We adopt and follow the Healthy Eating & Physical Activity Standards to ensure that youth are receiving healthy & nutritious snacks and meals as well as adequate amounts of physical activity time. (1) All food activities, snacks, and meals align with healthy eating standards, which includes low sugar, avoiding Trans Fats, avoiding added sugars, and focus on fresh and natural food options. (2) All youth participate in daily physical activity, which includes at least 60 minutes for a full day program and 30 minutes for a half day program. (3) We strive to incorporate non-screen related activities as much as possible but limit screen time use to 60 minutes when directly tied to an academic enrichment activity.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
We are committed to creating safe & inclusive environments to ensure everyone reaches their full potential with dignity.
Ceremonies & Routines
Every program has an opening & closing ceremony to provide staff & youth the opportunity to unite, connect, calm, and commit. Ceremonies incorporate elements of camp songs, skits, breathing exercises, emotion naming, daily jobs, and bead ceremonies. We incorporate set routines and schedules so staff & youth know what is expected and how to be successful.
