In 2017, Debbie was spending five days a week in bed due to chronic pain. Through a chance conversation with Windie, Lifeguard and Safety Coordinator at the West Boise YMCA & Boise City Aquatic Center, Debbie learned that the Y has warm water pools that would be comforting for her pain. She also learned that she was eligible for the Financial Assistance program to help her family become Y members.
Over a year later, Debbie’s pain is under control, better than it has been in years. Debbie’s children have a safe place to have fun and make friends while she participates in adapted water exercise classes with Laurie, a treasured YMCA Aquatics Instructor. “I take the most amazing class with the most welcoming community.
