Each year at the YMCA National Swim Meet, one male and one female graduating senior is awarded the YMCA Outstanding Scholar Athlete Award Presented by NIKE Swim. Recipients must have been a YMCA swimmer for five years, competed in the National YMCA SC Swimming & Diving Championships for 3 years, maintained a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 equivalent scale during their senior year in high school, and have plans to continue their education at a university or junior college. Winners are awarded $1,000 each. Recipients must present 2 letters of recommendation from a coach, clergy, teacher or YMCA staff person and must write a one page letter reflecting upon what YMCA swimming has meant to him/her.
This year, our own Alex Trompke, was selected as the male recipient of this award! Alex attends Rocky Mountain High School and plans to attend Michigan State University next fall. He has been a member of the Boise Y Swim Team for 7 years and currently serves as our Senior Athlete Representative. Alex maintains a 3.65 grade point average while attending 95% of his group’s practices.
Congratulations, Alex! We are all very proud of you and your accomplishments. How fortunate we have been to have you on our team.
