At the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, health and wellness go far beyond a typical workout. Through our Evidence-Based Health Interventions (EBHI), we offer programs that are not only safe and supportive—but scientifically proven to improve quality of life.
These programs are designed for individuals managing chronic conditions, recovering from injury, or simply looking to feel stronger and more confident in their daily lives. At the Y, you’re not just exercising—you’re participating in programs backed by research and real results.
What Are EBHI Programs?
Evidence-Based Health Interventions (EBHI) are programs that have been carefully developed and tested to ensure they deliver measurable health benefits. These programs follow structured guidelines and are led by trained instructors to help participants safely improve their strength, mobility, and overall well-being.
At the Y, EBHI programs focus on helping individuals:
- Manage chronic conditions
- Reduce pain and stiffness
- Improve balance and mobility
- Build strength and endurance
- Enhance mental and emotional well-being
They’re designed to meet you where you are—no matter your starting point.
Arthritis and Joint Health: Why Movement Matters
Many people believe that exercise will worsen joint pain—but the opposite is often true. In fact, avoiding movement can increase stiffness and discomfort over time. Regular, guided exercise helps strengthen the muscles that support your joints, reducing strain and improving function.
Through the Y’s Arthritis and Joint Health programs, participants can:
- Increase flexibility and range of motion
- Reduce joint pain and stiffness
- Build muscle to better support joints
- Improve energy levels and reduce fatigue
These programs are intentionally designed to be low-impact, supportive, and accessible for all fitness levels.
Programs That Make a Difference
Enhance®Fitness
One of the Y’s most impactful EBHI offerings is Enhance®Fitness—a group exercise program specifically designed for older adults and individuals managing chronic conditions.
This program has been proven to:
- Improve strength, balance, and flexibility
- Reduce the risk of falls and injury
- Decrease symptoms of depression
- Support independence and daily function
- Promote a more active, connected lifestyle
Each class includes a combination of cardio, strength training, balance work, and stretching—all in a supportive, social environment.
Clinical TRX
For those recovering from injury or looking to build joint stability, Clinical TRX offers a unique approach using suspension training.
This program helps participants:
- Rehabilitate musculoskeletal injuries
- Improve joint stability and strength
- Prevent future injury
- Progress safely at their own pace
It’s especially beneficial for individuals recovering from hip or knee surgery or anyone looking to strengthen their body with controlled, functional movement.
More Than Joint Health: A Whole-Person Approach
While arthritis and joint health programs are a powerful part of EBHI, they’re just one piece of a much larger picture.
The YMCA also offers evidence-based programs that support individuals navigating:
- Cancer recovery and survivorship
- Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease
- Movement disorders and mobility challenges
- Chronic disease prevention and management
Each program is designed with the same level of care—grounded in research, led by trained staff, and focused on improving quality of life in a safe, supportive environment.
