The YMCA is committed to promoting health and wellness in our community, and to assist with that mission, the Tomlinson South Meridian branch has outfitted itself with the EGYM System.
EGYM features a central hub that gathers physiological measurements, such as height and weight. After entering your fitness goals into the system, it evaluates your strength and ability to complete exercises using a series of smart machines. EGYM then creates a fitness plan tailored just for you.
My trainer recommended the system to me during one of our training sessions, right before the system was installed. He thought that since I was tech-savvy, and I was just starting up on my fitness journey, it would be a good way to slide into a good routine that would maximize my workouts. He said that it sounded sweet and was excited to see it in action.
A really cool thing about this system is its capability to adjust the resistance on each machine in real-time, maximizing your workout’s effectiveness. You can log into each machine using wristbands registered to you, allowing the EGYM system to record your workout progress. It keeps track of your reps and the weights you use, adjusting in real-time based on your performance. If it senses that you are getting tired, it reduces the weight, and if it notices that you are not being challenged, it ramps up the weight.
I find the technology very easy to use. Any trainer can assist with setting up your account at the central hub on the gym floor. The machines are arranged in a row, so you don’t have to search for them, making it convenient to transition from one machine to another. Each machine includes a screen that guides you through your repetitions and displays a waveform of dots that you aim to hit, much like the early video games.
The best part about this system is that it’s designed to maximize your success. You can download an app that updates your progress in real-time, allowing you to see how well you’re doing, which is incredibly helpful. You don’t have to remember the weights and the number of reps you need to do; the system handles all that for you. It tailors your workouts to your current abilities, enabling you to move through each machine faster, making it take less time than a regular workout.
While there is a small monthly fee that gets added to your membership, I believe it’s totally worth it to achieve my personal fitness goals.
